What is the difference between a deep tissue and sports massage?
A sports massage will focus on injury-related areas only and involve a number of different techniques including medical acupuncture, soft tissue work, stretching and muscle energy technique. A deep tissue massage will usually involve treating the whole body, involving soft tissue work only. It is usually geared more toward relaxing but also working to release any muscles under tension.
Does sports massage hurt?
I believe in working within my patient’s pain parameters. If my patient is in pain, they will tense the muscles making my work more difficult. I would rather take a moment or two longer to treat the area than break my fingers and have my patient in pain. Communication is key!
I don’t do much sports…do I need a sports massage?
Yes! Quite simply, sports massage can be beneficial to anyone regardless of age, athletic ability or exercise participation. It's an effective way to keep injuries, of all types, at bay.
How often should I come?
The more you drive your car the more you must fill it with petrol/change the oil/service it, to keep it in perfect working order. Your body is the same. If you are training hard, a weekly massge will help you enormously and enable you achieve your desired physical goals. This isn’t always practical, or financially viable, but you should, at the very least, seriously consider coming every 4-6 weeks to keep muscles flexible.
What should I wear?
Clothing you can remove easily and quickly is preferable. Some people choose to wear loose fitting t-shirts or shorts / trousers over their underwear, which is perfect. Ladies, please don’t wear your best underwear!
Will my aged parents benefit from a treatment?
Everyone, no matter how old or young, will benefit from a massage treatment.
What is reflexology and how does it work?
According to the International Institute of Reflexology, it is based on the principle that there are reflex points on the feet that correspond to every organ, gland and part of the body, and by using fingers and thumbs, the therapist can stimulate these to bring the body into a state of homeostasis.
Do you do the same treatment for everyone?
No, each treatment is tailor made for the individual and takes into consideration their particular issue, their needs, their age and the time booked.
